Feel free to do absolutely nothing, but if you feel more energetic then there are plenty of places to visit. The best way to get around is by tuk-tuk and our housekeeper can always arrange one for you.
The beaches between Kataluwa and Ahangama are the nearest (4 km from Puwak Watta) and are usually very quiet and are also where you can see stick fishermen in the early mornings, whilst Unawatuna Beach Resort, 12 km towards Galle, has loads of beach bars, shops and handicraft stalls.
Weligama, 10km east of Ahangama, is a sizeable town with a large sandy bay, local fisherman work from the beach and there is the famous Taprobane island.
Mirissa beach has a sweeping bay, good surf, whale watching trips and several laid back bars.
Galle is a large bustling town and the Fort is a World Heritage site and definitely worth a stroll. See the lighthouse and watch the sunset from the ramparts. There's also lots of shopping and of course the international cricket ground!
Closer to home, the Handunugoda Tea Estate is a 15 minute walk away and includes a tea museum, factory tour and tea tasting.
Further afield Yala National Park, famous for its leopards, is a 4 hour drive away east along the beach road.
